Aluminium oxide - metallurgical (aluminium oxide production)

Emissions generated by the activity within the product supply chain as described in ecoinvent v3.8. Aluminium oxide is produced from the refinery of bauxite, Bayer process. It usually presents as white granular powder. Most of the aluminium oxide produced is metallurgical aluminium oxide (metallurgical alumina) or smelter-grade aluminium oxide, which is used in primary aluminium production. As a by-product of the Bayer process, non-metallurgical aluminium oxide is produced. This product can be used in a number of different industries: calcinated, tabular and fused aluminium oxide are used as a material for refractories; fused aluminium oxide can also be used as an abrasive; low soda aluminium oxide is used in the production of electronics; reactive aluminium oxide is used in different industries which require specific characteristics (AZoM, 2002).
