Emission factor summary

Emission intensity of battery electric car. The GHG emissions standard applied is the ISO 14040 & 14044. Boundaries: Use phase of the battery electric car (i.e. grid emissions) Retrieved from Singapore Emission Factors Registry (SEFR) database. The primary data source is Ministry of Transport (MOT) Singapore. According to the source: MOT had previously announced in 2022 that emissions from a battery electric car were approximately half that of an ICE car. This was derived from equipment manufacturer specifications which may have been based on other countries’ GEFs. Upon taking into account Singapore’s GEF emissions from a battery electric car are even lower at 36% that of an ICE car. This is because our electricity generation predominantly relies on natural gas which is a cleaner energy source in comparison to many petroleum-based alternatives. The emissions from a battery electric car will continue to decrease as our grid becomes cleaner.
